film vs. digital

i went to a wedding this past weekend and shot with both my digital and film cameras. i took this lovely shot of the pool with both options since i wanted to see which captured it better. the funny thing is it's tough to tell the difference at this size. can you tell?

The skies are different, and the highlights in the trees and in the glimmer of the pools are different. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say the top one is film.

Am I right?!

Am I wrong?!

O, the suspense!

ha! you are definitely right, but it's a more subtle difference than in many other film shots i took this past weekend. the little red pool house on the top right is the main difference i noticed.

Whew, I am relieved. My analog vs digital cred was at stake.

The pool house is very different, as well.

It's interesting: I immediately noticed the difference in the skies. While the film captures the sky in a darker and more natural-looking way, the colors in the trees, water, and pool house are all more vibrant and more beautiful, in my opinion.

This difference is analogous (ha) to that between CD and LP. (But you knew I would say that.) Vinyl can be, at once, more natural and more euphonic.

Yay, I was going to say the top one was film too based on the reflection in the water of the pool. Both are gorgeous. Happy Fourth to you and Dan, Jaime!
